Heart attacks occur when the blood flow to the heart is blocked, often due to the buildup of plaque in the arteries. Other factors that increase the risk of heart attacks include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
Cardiac arrest is a sudden loss of heart function that can cause the heart to stop beating. It can lead to death within minutes if not treated immediately.
Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of the arteries as it circulates through the body. It is measured using two numbers: systolic pressure (top number) and diastolic pressure (bottom number). You can purchase blood pressure monitors on Avey to check your blood pressure.
A normal blood pressure reading is typically below 120/80 mmHg.
Symptoms of high blood pressure can include headaches, shortness of breath, chest pain, vision problems, and nosebleeds.
Low blood pressure, or hypotension, occurs when blood pressure drops below 90/60 mmHg. It can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting.
Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, limiting alcohol intake, and quitting smoking can all help maintain healthy blood pressure. It's also important to monitor blood pressure regularly and take any prescribed medications as directed by a doctor.
